This exhibit looks that ever evolving roles of women in the military, from the Civil War to today.  From WWI Yoemanetts, and Women Marines, to WWII Women's Army Corps (WAC), Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service (WAVES), U. S. Marine Corps Women's Rserve, and U.S. Coast Guard's SPARS (not an accronym), and after WWII the evolution of the Air Force's Women in the Air Force.

Nurses have been the services since the early 1900s, and were considered officers, but in their own corps.  They were never part of the WACs or WAVES, and did not serve in the USMC or USCG as the Navy provided nursing support for those services.
