MEMORIALS
Vietnam Unit Memorial
The Vietnam Unit Memorial Monument in Coronado, brings honor and remembrance to those U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast
Guard sailors who gave their lives at sea, in the air, on coastal and inland waters, and ashore during the
Vietnam War (1960-1975).
Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial, La Jolla, CA
Located on Mount Soledad with a large cross overlooking La Jolla and the Pacific Ocean, the memorial holds
six concentric walls of black granite plaques engraved with the names and photos of war veterans. Each plaque
'tells the story' of a veteran's military service or that of a group's military service. First used as a
Memorial Park in 1914, it became part of the military's early-warning defense system during WWII and has long
been used by planes and ships for navigation. On August 14, 2006 it was transferred to the Federal Government
as a National Veterans Memorial.
