The Veterans Memorial Center, Inc., (doing business as the Veterans Museum and Memorial Center) is a Federally chartered not-for-profit 501(c)(3) Museum and is registered with the State of California Department of Charitable Trusts (CT-76500). We are funded by our membership, grants and donations that allow us to fund ongoing exhibits, displays, educational programs and veterans community support programs as defined by our charter. Additionally, our collection of artifacts, photographs, documents, uniforms, memorabilia, books and artwork are donated by veterans and their families. Your help in supporting these needs is greatly appreciated and will ensure the future of the San Diego Veterans Museum and Memorial Center. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.

Our mission is to honor and perpetuate the memory of the men and women who have served in the U. S. Armed Forces, Coast Guard and Wartime Merchant Marine. We support the community through our museum activities, educational programs, oral histories, and community programs that keep alive the contributions and experiences of those who served. Our museum is open to the public without charge and all money raised goes directly to supporting the VMMC's programs and operations.

Note that there are several ways to make a donation, please consider one of the following methods to make your donation.

Most additions to our unique research and exhibit collection of artifacts, equipment, personal papers, documents, photographs, maps, books, memorabilia and artwork are acquired through unconditional donations from private individuals and veterans. Listed below are examples of the types of material we seek to acquire.

Materials of interest to the VMMC:

Uniforms, Gear, Equipment, Weapons, Flags, Unit Insignia, Shoulder Patches, Art (original drawings, paintings, sketches, cartoons, prints, etc.), Scrapbooks, Motion Pictures, Videos or Audio records of your service experiences; Captured enemy materials, and Other Objects relating to your military service or to Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Wartime Merchant Marine History.

Memoirs or diaries of military service (published, typed, handwritten, electronic); Personal correspondence with family and friends (including V-Mail); Base, Camp, Unit, and Service related newspapers and periodicals; Unit histories (published or not) and organizational documents (reports, briefings, orders, etc.); Books on the Services or military history (both nonfiction and fiction), Service manuals, brochures, and handouts; Military maps and charts; Photographs (prints, negatives, slides, albums); and other print or image materials that tell about your military experiences.

We are interested in artifacts of any United States historical era from the founding of our country through the present.

Your unconditional donation means simply that it is a gift that allows us to make the best use of your material in our research and exhibits, and it includes the right to transfer those items in excess of our needs and research interest. (If you prefer the return of any donated items that may not be added to our collection, please tell us.)

OTHER GIFTS

GIFTS OF PERSONAL PROPERTY:
Valuable collections such as works of art, rare books, paintings or antiques can be subject to estate taxes. By donating such items at some point in your lifetime, you not only lessen your taxable estate but also decrease your taxable income in the year of the gift.

GIFTS OF STOCKS & BONDS:
You can select to give a gift of appreciated securities in order to benefit from tax advantages. You can obtain an income tax deduction equal to the fair-market value of the securities, as well as reduce — or do away with — capital gains taxes on the transfer.

GIFTS OF LIFE INSURANCE:
You may make a contribution of life insurance to the Veterans Museum & Memorial Center by naming the Veterans Museum & Memorial Center as owner, primary or successor beneficiary, or irrevocable beneficiary of a whole life policy.
